Do I need to stay for my child’s therapy session?

We encourage parent and carer involvement in paediatric sessions. Being part of therapy helps you see how activities relate to your child’s goals and provides you with strategies to continue making progress at home. If you feel your child should attend alone, we can discuss options with you.

How often should therapy happen?

Consistency matters. Regular weekly or fortnightly sessions help build skills, confidence, and momentum. For some clients, intensive blocks or holiday programs may be recommended. We’ll always tailor the frequency to your goals and family needs.

What’s the difference between an initial OT assessment and an NDIS report?
  • Initial assessment: A comprehensive report outlining strengths, challenges, and therapy focus areas at the start of your journey.

  • NDIS report: Focused on your progress towards NDIS goals, including recommendations for future supports, therapy frequency, or equipment.

What happens at home between sessions?

Therapy doesn’t stop when the session ends. We’ll guide you with simple home practice activities — what to do, how to do it, and most importantly, why it matters. If home practice doesn’t fit into your routine, talk with us — we’ll adapt strategies to suit your family.

Do you run therapy on public holidays?

Our therapists and families all need time to rest and recharge. We don’t run sessions on public holidays, but if you don’t want to miss out, we can find an alternative time that week.

What should we do before therapy?

A snack and drink 30 minutes before a session can help with regulation. Avoiding screens for a couple of hours before therapy helps children arrive calm and focused. Comfortable clothes that allow free movement are recommended.

Do you provide therapy during school holidays?

Yes! School holidays can be a great opportunity for:

  • Catch-up sessions

  • Short intensive blocks

  • Group programs (e.g., social skills, handwriting, life skills, holiday activities)

  • Home programs with parent coaching

  • Reflecting on goals and progress

We’ll discuss with you what will best support your child or family during breaks.

Do you offer group programs?

Yes — when there’s interest and need. We run groups for children, adolescents, and adults that may include social skills, handwriting, cooking, fitness, art, or community participation. These groups build confidence, friendships, and real-world skills.

How do I know if therapy is working?

We set clear goals at the start and review them regularly. You’ll receive both formal progress reports (for NDIS reviews if needed) and informal feedback every session. Most importantly, you’ll notice the small changes in everyday life — your child managing a new skill, or an adult regaining independence after a stroke.

Where do sessions happen?

We deliver therapy where it makes the most impact — at home, school, workplace, in the community, or via telehealth. For some goals, we may also recommend short blocks in our clinic environment.

Do you only work with children?

No — we support all ages. From paediatric early intervention and autism supports, to life skills for teens, mental health and employment pathways for adults, and stroke rehabilitation or daily living supports for older adults.

Are you an NDIS registered provider?

Yes. Healing Pathways NT is an NDIS registered provider offering both core and capacity building supports. We accept self-managed and plan-managed participants, and we also work with privately funded clients.
